What are Corns and Calluses?
Corns and calluses are areas of thickened skin caused by repeated or intermittent pressure or friction. They can develop on any part of the foot, especially where bones are prominent or shoes rub. Ill-fitting footwear, high levels of walking or standing, bony deformities such as bunions or hammer toes are common causes of callus and corns.
Callus: A larger, broader area of hard skin, often on the ball or heel of the foot.
Corn: A smaller, deeper area of hard skin, often painful and found on toes or pressure points.
If they are not managed well, can cause tenderness/pain, burning sensation and skin may appear yellowish or flaky.
